The Optimizer’s Edge: Inside Danny Yeung’s High-Impact Health Stack

Danny Yeung

Danny Yeung, CEO of IM8 and Prenetics, is redefining health through genetics, daily optimization, and blockchain—merging science, personal mission, and innovation for a new era of wellness.

Danny Yeung doesn’t just talk about optimizing health - he builds the platforms that make it possible.

As the CEO and Co-Founder of IM8 (along with David Beckham) and Prenetics, Danny is shaping the future of personalized wellness at scale. From genetic testing to comprehensive daily nutrition, Danny’s ventures aim to democratize access to science-backed, preventive health solutions. He’s also one of the few leaders merging healthcare innovation with blockchain strategy, having recently led Prenetics into Bitcoin treasury management.

But his commitment to health isn’t just professional - it’s deeply personal.

“Becoming a father changed everything,” Danny shares. “I realized health isn’t just for me - it’s for those I love.”

We connected with Danny to dive deep into how he structures his own health protocol and why it’s allowed him to thrive as a founder, investor and father.

Tell us about yourself, Danny:

I'm a serial entrepreneur and the Co-Founder and CEO of IM8 and Prenetics, a leading health sciences company that I founded in 2014. I'm based in Hong Kong, which serves as an incredible hub between China and Southeast Asia. Hong Kong is both challenging and rewarding as a business environment - if you can succeed here, you can succeed anywhere.

My entrepreneurial journey began unusually early. I started working at age 12 at a baseball card shop. Getting paid in baseball cards taught me the fundamentals of buying low and selling high. By 25, I was franchising Hong Kong dessert chain "Hui Lau Shan" into the USA, then moved into hospitality furniture, executing multi-million-dollar projects with MGM globally.

My most recognized venture before healthcare was founding uBuyiBuy in 2010, a group buying platform that I sold to Groupon after just six months. I then served as CEO of Groupon East Asia, leading it to become the largest e-commerce company in the region.

In 2014, I co-founded Prenetics and transitioned into genetic testing. People thought I was quite crazy when I transitioned from e-commerce to genetic testing in 2014 with zero healthcare background, but I was driven by a desire to make a real societal impact. Prenetics operates three main divisions: CircleDNA (our consumer genetic testing platform), Europa Sports (a sports distribution provider), and most recently, IM8 Health - a premium health and wellness brand I co-founded with David Beckham in 2024.

The impact we are seeing from customers has been so humbling and we are so proud to make such a big difference in people’s lives.

We've also pioneered another first in healthcare - becoming the first healthcare company to establish a Bitcoin treasury strategy. What excites me about this convergence of healthcare innovation and blockchain technology is that we're at the dawn of a new era where genomics, personalized medicine, and digital assets will intersect in ways that could revolutionize how we approach human health, longevity, and wealth.

Outside of work, being a father has fundamentally shaped my perspective. I want to model healthy living and ensure I'm around to see my children grow up and thrive. My life motto is "Play Hard, Work Harder," and I approach everything with a logical and optimistic perspective, which helps me avoid getting stressed about things I can't control.

What role does health and wellness play in your life?

Health and wellness have become absolutely central to everything I do, especially since co-founding IM8. I'll be honest—for most of my entrepreneurial career, health was probably the last thing I thought about. When you're building companies from the ground up, you tend to sacrifice everything for the business.

My transformation really began when I became a father and understanding that health is not just for myself, but for the people that are the closest to you. That moment changed everything. I fundamentally believe that health is a journey, not a destination.

Today, health and wellness inform every major decision I make. I've completely changed my diet, made exercise a priority, and IM8 is the foundation of my daily routine. The irony is that by prioritizing my health, I've actually become more effective as a leader. I have more energy, clearer thinking, and sharper focus.

Health shouldn't be a luxury available only to those who can afford the best doctors and treatments—it should be accessible to everyone. That's why we created IM8 to be comprehensive yet simple, effective yet convenient.

Tell us about your health protocol. What does your routine look like?

My health protocol has been completely transformed since co-founding IM8, and honestly, the product has become the cornerstone of everything I do for my health.

IM8 Daily Foundation: Every single morning starts with IM8 Daily Ultimate Essentials. I've been drinking it daily for over a year now, and I genuinely feel the difference.

Exercise Philosophy: Rather than trying to maintain an athlete's training regimen that I'd inevitably abandon during crunch periods, I focus on sustainable activities. My routine includes regular cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and flexibility work, but I've designed it to be adaptable to travel and varying work demands. I always say working out even for 20 minutes a day is better than nothing. The key insight is that your health protocol needs to be as personalized as your business strategy.

Sauna, Steam and Massages: This is also part of my routine and when I’m not traveling, I really try to stick to this as much as possible. So I would get weekly full body massages, and be in the steam and sauna at least 2-3 times a week. Given that there is always something going on, I usually even take my phone with me into the steam and sauna. Not a good habit but I will change that soon!

Nutrition Strategy: My approach to nutrition was completely transformed after learning about my genetic predisposition to colon cancer. My diet now emphasizes whole foods, plenty of vegetables, lean proteins, and foods that support gut health.

What products do you use to support your health and wellness?

Obviously, IM8 Daily Ultimate Essentials. What I love about IM8 is the convenience factor—as an entrepreneur who's always switched on, I need solutions that work reliably without requiring constant attention or complex protocols.

Through my work with Prenetics and CircleDNA, I know my genetic predispositions and health markers. This isn't about paranoia—it's about informed decision-making.

I use Whoop to track sleep quality, heart rate variability and activity levels. Since IM8 has improved my sleep quality significantly, I track these metrics to see the ongoing improvements.

The common thread in all my choices is evidence-based effectiveness combined with convenience. If something requires too much time, preparation, or mental energy, you won't sustain it.

What was the personal or professional turning point that sparked your deeper interest in healthcare and personalized medicine?

The turning point was deeply personal and happened around 2014, representing both a professional crossroads and a personal awakening. When I left Groupon in early 2014, I had achieved significant success in e-commerce but was also at my most unhealthy point. Years of poor eating, minimal sleep, and high stress had taken their toll.

Becoming a father made me realize that my health wasn't just about me anymore. The real wake-up call came when I decided to try genetic testing myself. Despite having no family history of cancer, the results showed I had an increased risk for colon cancer. That moment was transformative because it shattered my assumption that genetics were destiny.

The journey from e-commerce to healthtech wasn't just a career pivot—it was a personal mission born from the realization that health is the ultimate foundation for everything else in life. Every subsequent venture, from CircleDNA to Insighta to IM8, has been driven by this core belief that prevention is better than treatment and that everyone deserves access to the tools to optimize their health.

In your view, what are the most exciting breakthroughs on the horizon that could redefine how we manage aging and vitality?

AI-Powered Precision Medicine represents perhaps the most transformative breakthrough we're witnessing. Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing how we analyze genetic data and develop personalized treatments. At Prenetics, we're seeing AI enhance our genetic testing capabilities, enabling us to identify complex genetic variants and predict health risks with unprecedented accuracy.

Preventive Healthcare Revolution represents a fundamental shift from reactive to proactive healthcare. Instead of waiting until you're sick, we're developing tools to predict and prevent disease decades before symptoms appear. This is exactly what we're doing with CircleDNA and IM8—giving people the power to optimize their health every single day based on their unique genetic profile and comprehensive nutrition.

Personalized Medicine at Scale is becoming reality through advances in genetic sequencing and AI. What once cost billions and took years can now be done affordably and quickly. We're moving toward a future where your genetic profile informs everything from your exercise routine to your nutrition plan to your medical screening schedule.

Multi-Cancer Early Detection through our Insighta venture with Prof. Dennis Lo represents a paradigm shift in cancer screening. Instead of screening for individual cancers at different ages, we're developing technology to detect multiple cancers early through simple blood tests, potentially saving millions of lives.

Comprehensive Daily Optimization through products like IM8 represents the future of wellness—instead of taking multiple supplements and hoping they work together, we're creating scientifically formulated, all-in-one solutions that address every aspect of daily health optimization.

What excites me most is that these aren't distant possibilities—they're happening now. We're at an inflection point where technology, science, and accessibility are converging to democratize health optimization for everyone, not just the wealthy few.

If you had to pick something you’d recommend to anyone, what would it be and why?

If I could give everyone one piece of advice, it’s that your health is the ultimate investment in yourself. Every dollar and hour you spend on understanding and optimizing your health will pay dividends in energy, productivity, longevity, and quality of life.

Start with simplicity and science, not complexity and guesswork. Most people approach health like they're trying to force themselves into someone else's blueprint. They start with extreme diets, punishing workout routines, or complex supplement regimens because that's what worked for someone else. Then they wonder why they can't sustain these changes and end up feeling like failures.

Start with Foundation, Not Optimization. Don't worry about the latest biohacking trends or advanced protocols. Focus on the fundamentals: consistent sleep, regular movement, whole foods, stress management, and comprehensive daily nutrition.

Invest in Prevention. The best time to focus on health is when you feel fine. Don't wait for a health scare or crisis to motivate change. Prevention is always easier and more effective than treatment.

Start Small, Scale Gradually. Begin with one or two changes you can sustain for 30 days.

Remember, health is a journey, not a destination. The goal isn't perfection—it's progress. Every small step you take toward better health compounds over time, creating the foundation for everything else you want to achieve in life.
