Mike Mauzé’s Health Stack: Movement, Music and Mindset

Investor and athlete Mike Mauzé blends movement, music and mindfulness into a life philosophy that fuels both his fitness routine and his leadership at VMG Partners.

Mike Mauzé’s Health Stack: Movement, Music and Mindset

As co-founder and Managing Director of VMG Partners, Mike Mauzé has spent the past two decades helping build and invest in some of the most iconic consumer and wellness brands of our time — from KIND and Perfect Snacks to Spindrift and Stone Brewing. But behind the boardroom success lies a lifelong passion for health, movement, and balance — a philosophy that’s as much personal as it is professional.

A Lifelong Love of Movement

“Health and wellness have always played a critical role in my life,” Mike says. “As a collegiate soccer player at Davidson College, I loved the thrill of movement and competition.”

That competitive spirit didn’t fade after graduation. Mike transitioned from soccer to squash, and eventually into the world of triathlons — tackling both half and full IRONMAN races. “They immensely humbled me,” he admits with a laugh. “To this day, I’m always chasing a new challenge that keeps the spirit of competition alive — but also makes it fun.”

These days, cycling is at the heart of his fitness routine. It’s a passion that goes back to his childhood in South Jersey, when he delivered newspapers every morning — “without a helmet, no less!” — and found joy in the rhythm of the ride. This November, he’ll once again embark on a cross-country cycling adventure, something he does “at a regular cadence” to stay inspired and connected to the road.

The Art of Balance

Beyond business and fitness, Mike has a deep appreciation for the arts — a love he shares with his wife, who serves as the Chair of the San Francisco Ballet Board. Mike himself is the former Chair of SFJAZZ, an organization close to his heart.

“I’ve always admired both art and jazz,” he says. “They mirror the creativity, flow, and discipline that sport demands.”

His artistic side doesn’t stop at appreciation — he’s also a lifelong musician. “I played the cello growing up and now take piano lessons well into my 60s,” he says. “Let’s just say, when I’m in a group class and a 7-year-old hears me play, I can see the disappointment in her eyes — but I’m giving it my all!”

Mike’s Fitness Protocol

Mike’s routine is all about consistency, structure, and joy. He loves setting and conquering Strava goals each month to keep himself accountable and motivated:

  • 🚴‍♂️ 300 miles of cycling

  • 🏊 25,000 yards of swimming

  • 💪 10 hours of strength training and Pilates

  • 🧘 4 hours of yoga

“This helps me stay on track and keep things in check — and flowing,” he says.

Living the Wellness Ethos

For Mike, health and wellness go far beyond workouts and routines — they’re about longevity, gratitude, and connection. “It’s one of the best things we have going for us these days,” he says. “I’m grateful that my work and my lifestyle both embody the spirit of health and wellness. Over the decades, I’ve seen firsthand how consumers have evolved and truly thrived in this space.”

In the end, Mike Mauzé’s approach to wellness mirrors the brands he invests in — authentic, purposeful, and built for the long game.
