In an age where health optimization and early detection are becoming increasingly integral to the wellness conversation, Ezra caught my attention with its promise of full-body MRI scans designed to detect cancer and over 500 conditions in a quick, non-invasive session.
When Function Health, a service I’ve previously reviewed for its revolutionary blood biomarker testing, announced its acquisition of Ezra, I knew I had to experience it for myself. (Read my Function Health review here).
Ezra caters to a broad range of people: individuals like myself with a family history of certain diseases, those simply curious about their internal health and longevity enthusiasts looking to stay on top of their health through world-class preventative solutions. With locations nationwide and a modern, consumer-first approach, Ezra offers an elevated, tech-powered way to gain deep structural insights into your health.

First Impressions
My scan took place at Princeton Imaging, one of Ezra’s partnered locations. The building itself was clean, airy and full of natural light - a welcoming space that instantly put me at ease. Intake was fully digital and intuitive; I was able to complete everything quickly on a tablet with zero friction.
The staff, especially technicians John and Alexis, deserve a special shoutout. Their professionalism and warmth set the tone for what turned out to be a surprisingly relaxing experience. A clinician’s bedside demeanor is one of the strongest indicators of a patient’s satisfaction - regardless of the outcome - and John and Alexis’ friendliness and professionalism left me walking away from Ezra with a deep sense of trust and appreciation.
Key Features and Benefits
1. Full-Body MRI Screening: Ezra scans up to 13 organs, helping to detect tumors and abnormalities early. some as small as 2 mm.
2. Multiple Scan Options: Choose from Full-Body MRI, Full-Body + Spine, or Full-Body + Skeletal & Neurological Assessment. I chose the baseline Full-Body MRI.
3. Exceptional User Experience: From pajamas branded with the Ezra logo (which you get to keep!) to your choice of music and headphones during the scan, the service is designed with comfort in mind.
Experience and Testing
From check-in to departure, the entire visit lasted around 40 minutes. I was given a fresh pair of Ezra-branded pajamas and guided through a seamless process by John and Alexis. Despite a history of mild claustrophobia, I found the MRI machine to be surprisingly spacious and not at all anxiety-inducing. I nearly fell asleep listening to my music (80’s Pop Music, in case you care :), that’s how comfortable it was.
During the scan, two key components were used to ensure optimal imaging: a football-style helmet that gently fit over my head and a secure chest device to stabilize positioning. At first glance, these might seem restrictive, but neither felt uncomfortable or induced any sense of claustrophobia.
The first half of the scan focused on my head and upper neck, so I was only partially inside the machine. For the second half, which focused on my chest and abdomen, the table moved further in. Even then, I didn’t feel enclosed or uneasy at any point. The combination of gentle lighting, personalized music and thoughtful design made the entire experience surprisingly serene.
Ezra had initially set the expectation of receiving results within 5 to 7 days, but the technician mentioned I might see them sooner. To my astonishment, I had my full results, including raw MRI files and a radiologist-reviewed report, in under 24 hours.
The results were presented in a clear, actionable format using a 1-to-5 scale, where 1 indicates no action needed and 5 calls for immediate medical attention. I scored all 1s except one 3 for an abnormality in my frontal sinus, which my doctor and I will follow up with a CT scan. Ezra’s online portal even gives you the ability to share the report and image files directly with your doctor and includes a secure password to protect your privacy.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
High-resolution, non-radiative imaging
Clear, actionable reporting
Professional and friendly staff
Comfortable and calming environment
Lightning-fast turnaround
Cons:
Availability limited to certain cities
Price can still be a barrier, despite recent reductions
Can lead to further investigation of findings that may not be clinically significant, potentially causing unnecessary worry or follow-up testing
Who It’s Best For
Ezra is ideal for:
Individuals with a family history of chronic conditions
Busy professionals seeking comprehensive, time-efficient health screenings
Proactive health enthusiasts looking to establish imaging baselines
Comparisons to Similar Products/Services
Compared to traditional imaging services or even other health optimization platforms like Function Health or InsideTracker, Ezra offers a complementary tool. While Function and InsideTracker shine with blood biomarkers and metabolic data, Ezra delivers deep structural insights into your organs and tissues. It’s not either/or - together, they round out a 360-degree view of health (hence why Function’s acquisition of Ezra makes perfect sense).
Moreover, Ezra’s FDA-cleared "Flash AI" technology enhances scan precision and assists radiologists in detecting anomalies earlier. Combined with Function Health's blood testing, this could represent the future of integrated preventative care. Together, they can offer a holistic approach: Ezra for structure, Function for biochemistry.
Final Verdict
From start to finish, my Ezra experience was top-tier. It ticked all the boxes: beautiful facility, seamless booking, clear communication, empathetic staff and actionable results delivered faster than promised. I left feeling reassured and more informed about my internal health.
I’m genuinely excited to explore their more advanced scan offerings, including the Spine and Neurological Assessment options in future visits. Perhaps I’ll cover those in a follow-up post.
For now, I’m confident saying that as long as you're mindful of the potential risk of investigating findings that may not be clinically significant and able to bear the costs, Ezra deserves a place in any serious preventive health plan.
